Wawrinka Fit And Raring To Compete

Stan Wawrinka has declared himself “completely fit” and ready to compete in what he hopes will be a successful year.

The Swiss player had his injury problems in 2018 and sits down at 57th in the world rankings after a difficult 12 months.

He did make it to the third round of the US Open last year as a wildcard although his 2019 campaign has not got off to the best start after he was knocked out of the Australian Open by Ernests Gulbis in the first round.

However, the 33-year-old is now set to increase his schedule as he’s booked in to play in four consecutive tournaments – in Sofia, Rotterdam, Marseille and Acapulco.

Wawrinka plays Marius Copil in Sofia first up and says he’s expecting a tough test. “I am feeling really better now than last year,” he told Tennis World USA.

“Last year, I was coming back from injury. Now I am completely fit. “I played well in Doha and the Australia Open, won few matches. I expect a really tough match against Marius.

I know him well, we have played twice in the past. He played in the final here, so he likes the conditions here. He is a tough player to play. I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.”
