Webster Looking For Seagulls To Clip Magpies’ Wings

Adam Webster insists that Brighton will go to Newcastle confident that they can silence the vociferous home supporters and come away with three points. The 24-year-old is enjoying the early stages of his debut Premier League campaign with the Seagulls having joined from Bristol City in a deal worth up to £22million in the summer.

The central defender had to wait until the 4-0 defeat at reigning champions Manchester City to make his debut, while he ended last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Burnley playing at right-back.

Webster will hope to be in boss Graham Potter’s plans for the early evening kick-off at St James’ Park on Saturday as the Seagulls look for their first win since the 3-0 opening day success at Watford.

And, while he knows the Magpies’ fans can make it intimidating for visiting teams, the former Ipswich stopper is backing the Seagulls to secure a much-needed result.

Webster told the Argus: “It’s a tough place to go and with 50,000 Geordies screaming at us, we know it won’t be easy. But we shall be looking to go there and win. If we prepare right and, hopefully, get a result.”

Newcastle will go into the game having also claimed just one win from their opening five outings and sit in the final relegation place – one point and two places behind Brighton.

Steve Bruce’s men have only played two matches at home so far and, having lost 1-0 against Arsenal on the opening weekend, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Watford before the international break.

Meanwhile, Webster feels Brighton should be more of a threat in set-piece situations given the height in Potter’s ranks.
He added: “It is something we work on every week. They (set-pieces) change every week depending on the opposition, so hopefully we can start adding those goals to our game.”
