Werner Pens New Leipzig Deal But Has Get-Out Clause

Timo Werner has pledged his future to RB Leipzig by signing a contract extension that will run until 2023. The striker has been a revelation for the Bulls and fired home another 16 goals last season as they finished third in the Bundesliga, form which caught the eye of rival clubs.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool have been heavily linked with a swoop but it would appear Werner is going nowhere for now. Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche said: “Of course, we are pleased that Timo Werner has decided to extend his contract with us and to continue the path we have taken with our club.

“This is a very positive signal and also underscores our goal of tying our core employees to us in the long term and of permanently establishing ourselves in the Bundesliga. Of course, that was a far-reaching decision for his own future, and for that reason, he took the necessary time for it, which we also gave him.”

It has been reported in some sections of the media that a 30million euros release clause could kick in at the end of next season.
