Williamson Shines In Black Caps Win

Kane Williamson produced a captain’s innings just when it was needed as he guided New Zealand to victory over South Africa. After being set a total of 242 to win, a tense match went to the final over with New Zealand needing eight from it to wrap up the win which would take them to the top of the table.

Williamson kept his cool when sweeping the second ball for six and then hit the next for four to complete the win with three balls to spare. The Black Caps skipper was the hero, but was quick to praise the rest of his side after the win. “It’s just about trying to do the job as well as you can,” he said.

“I was fortunate I was able to do it today. “There were a number of contributions that were so vital. It was one of those surfaces that provides a great spectacle. It could have gone either way but it was great to get the win at the end of the day.” South Africa captain Faf du Plessis also praised his side’s effort, but felt they just fell short with the bat.

“We threw ourselves around, we challenged, we fought, we tried. It was great work from our bowlers. The fielding energy was unbelievable,” he said. “I thought 260 was par on this wicket. The chat in the team the whole time was try and aim at 260, 270. I felt we were 20 short”, Williamson said.
