Wilshere Predicts Big Problems For Pellegrini

Jack Wilshere believes West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini will have a tough time selecting his starting XI next season. Pellegrini has been well backed in the transfer market once again this summer as West Ham’s owners hope to force their way into Europe.

They had to settle for 10th in Pellegrini’s first season at the helm and are seeking major improvements in 2019-20. Wilshere feels the Hammers are good enough to earn a place in the top six although he admits they must raise their game against sides placed around them.

“With the big teams we seem to be able to get ourselves up for those games and pick up results, maybe because we’re a little bit more focused and we know what we need to do,” Wilshere told West Ham’s official website. “Against the teams around us, if we can repeat those performances and pick up results, we’ve got a good chance of finishing above them.”

The former Arsenal man made just eight league appearances in 2017-18 due to injuries but is hoping to earn a regular place this term after enjoying a full pre-season. He has been impressed with the way the squad has acquitted themselves in the build-up to the new campaign and feels Pellegrini will have some difficult decisions to make in terms of selection.

He added: “The intensity levels in training are high and you have to train well every day. That’s what you want as a player. If everyone manages to stay fit, the manager’s going to have a big problem. It’s down to me and the individuals to make it clear to the manager that we have to play.”
