Wolves Seal Challenge Cup Glory

Warrington Wolves have won the Challenge Cup for the first time since 2012 after an 18-4 victory over St Helens. Saints have been the dominant team in Super League this season but Warrington, who sit second in the standings, prevailed at Wembley.

The Wolves controlled proceedings in the first half and took the lead on 25 minutes when Joe Philbin weaved his way through the defence before bundling over the line. Ben Murdoch-Masila helped the Wire to take a firm grip on the game as he powered his way in, before Stefan Ratchford kicked his second successful conversion.

The onus was on Saints to come out fighting in the second half and registered their first score through Theo Fages. But, their wait for a first Challenge Cup title since 2008 goes on after Daryl Clark put Warrington out of reach with a late try.

Warrington head coach Steve Price told BBC One: “It had to take a special performance, they’ve been the benchmark team all season but we stayed at it and broke them down, I’m just ecstatic for the playing group.”
