Wood Fifer Puts England On Top

Mark Wood finally feels like an England player after claiming his first five-wicket Test haul on day two of the clash with West Indies.

Wood has been dogged by injury problems but showed his class when reaching speeds of 95mph to take 5-41 to help England dismiss West Indies for 154.

Moeen Ali also claimed 4-36 but it was the performance of Wood, playing for the first time since May 2018, who stole the headlines with his performance.

Wood says it felt good to finally feel a part of the England set-up again and is looking to build on the performance and cement his place in the side. “It feels fantastic – all the hard times I’ve had with injury, and the self-doubt, today I felt like an England player,” He said.

“I have had some bad times. There were times where I was desperate to do well but it wasn’t quite happening for me. I am here on merit, not potential.”
Rory Burns and Keaton Jennings guided England to 19-0 at stumps as they take a lead of 142 into day three of the final Test of the series.
