Woods On Track To Return

World number 10 Tiger Woods says he is making good progress from knee surgery as he prepares to play at the Zozo Championship. The American went under the knife for the fifth time on his left knee in August after missing out on the season-ending Tour Championship.

Woods was once again struck down by injury problems during the 2019 campaign, and he has only finished 17 rounds since he won the Masters in April. The 15-time major winner had been hoping to have surgery sooner, but he says he feels happy with his current level of fitness. He was in action on Monday in a Skins match with Jason Day,

Hideki Matsuyama and Rory McIlroy and the fan-favourite issued a positive statement on his knee. “It’s been nice to have it [the knee] moving again and not having it catch and lock up like it has been,” Woods said. “It’s just wear and tear over the years. It’s been stressed out for a very long time, and it’s nice to have it cleaned up.

“I’m right on schedule. The procedure was scheduled for the Tuesday after the Tour Championship, and I had it the Tuesday of the Tour Championship. The whole idea was to be ready for this event and get ready for Hero [Hero World Challenge] and possibly Australia [Presidents Cup].

“I had it done and, as I said, it’s been nice to be able to squat down and read putts, and I started going at it full speed again. I’m excited about having this end-of-the-year run where I’m feeling much more fit, and I don’t have the achiness that I’ve been dealing with for the last couple of years.”
