Iran Coach: Neither Side Deserved a Win

Iran coach Carlos Quiroz has expressed satisfaction with the goalless draw his team grounded out against African champions, Nigeria on Monday in both sides’ first ever meeting at a FIFA World Cup.

The dour encounter was the 13th game of the 2014 World Cup that hitherto didn’t produced a draw. But Nigeria and Iran failed to produce a spark throughout the duration of their game.

Quiroz, a former assistant coach at Manchester United who was also in charge of Real Madrid and Portugal said his team faced a difficult side.

“I salute my players. We played against a strong Nigerian team. They had good players like Moses, Emenike and Mikel who could give them solutions in front of goal, but we defended very well.

“We also created a few chances of our own, but it wasn’t enough. Neither side deserved to win the game.”

The Portuguese spared a thought for the fans who went home saddened by their national team’s result but stressed that the outcome of the game against Nigeria means that they still have a chance to qualify to the next round of the World Cup.

“The fans may be disappointed that there were no goals. But for us, the draw is one point and it is better than a loss? My team were celebrating because we still have a chance in the competition,” Quiroz reasoned.

The Asians’ next game is on Saturday against group favourites, Argentina.

  • It is good that subscribers are being given lots of optnios. For instance, wifey was asking why the data bundle on her glo line does not have lower denominations. She is never eva able to consume the .’excessive (for her). 150Mb offered for N1000 by Glo. She hardly uses up to 30Mb monthly! Read a few newspapers and some magazines online once In a while -and that is it!Can we have pro-rated data? Say 10Mb for N100 / 50Mb for N500? Allowing subscribers to choose fragments of services they truly need is a good trend. Kudos!
