Iran coach Carlos Queiroz has warned the Super Eagles and other Group F rivals that his team will not be pushovers at the World Cup.
Drawn in the same group as Nigeria, Argentina and Bosnia, Iran are making their fourth appearance at the World Cup, but have crashed out in each of those appearances with their only win coming in a 2-1 win over USA atFrance 98.
Queiroz insists Iran will not make up the numbers in Brazil.
“It’s always about the next game, never about the last,” he states confidently.
“Now it’s time to believe, to no longer make excuses, explanations or giving up. It’s coming on, do the best for their country and try to win the game.
“The crucial thing is that we are not here to participate.
“We do not come to watch the World Cup. Now is the time to fight, to play with heart and soul. It’s time for Iran to give their best,” says the former Man United assistant coach who went on to manage Real Madrid.
Iran rounded off their preparations for the World Cup with a 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago.
