–Renard sets to change Elephants fortune
Ivory Coast will look to make a positive statement when they begin their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone today.
This Group D fixture will take place at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.
The match was originally in doubt due to Ivory Coast’s reluctance to host their opponents, who have reported cases of Ebola.
However, an agreement was reached with Sierra Leone confirming that all the players and staff members were based outside the country and had not visited in the last three weeks.
With that sorted, it’s now time for new coach Herve Renard to lead the Elephants for the first time since taking over the reins after the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The Frenchman has made some changes to the squad and he insists that European-based players will not necessarily be given first preference.
“Everyone has a chance,” Renard said. “Personally, I don’t look at players as locals or professionals. For me it is about who is doing the best on the field.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
