Alex Iwobi’s Arsenal ended Tottenham Hotspur’s six-game winning streak with a 4-2 thrashing in a North London derby thriller – an English Premier League game, at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The game was Iwobi’s 12th game in the EPL this season.
The Gunners who extended their unbeaten run to 19 games took the lead after ten minutes from the penalty spot netted by Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.
Iwobi had a chance to double Arsenal’s lead in the 20th minute but his side-footed shot was saved by Hugo Lloris in goal for Tottenham.
Eric Dier equalised midway through the first half with a flick header from a free-kick from Christian Eriksen in the 30th minute.
Spurs took the lead four minutes later from the spot through Harry Kane after Son Hueng Min was fouled in the box by Hector Bellerin. The goal was Kane’s eight in the North London derby.
At the start of the second half Arsenal manager Unai Emery replaced Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Alexandre Lacazette and Aaron Ramsey.
Aubameyang made it 2-2 firing in a superb strike from the edge of the box in the 56th minute.
Lacazette gave Arsenal the lead in the 75th minute before Lucas Torreira sealed a comprehensive victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the 184th North London derby with a fine strike from inside the box.
Jan Vertonghen was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 85th minute of the encounter
Arsenal who now have 77 wins as against Spurs 57 wins in the North London derby move up to the third spot in the EPL standings with a +4 goal difference ahead of Tottenham in fourth place.
Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in their next game while Tottenham will look to bounce back from this defeat when they face Southampton at the Wembley Stadium.
