Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi made his 13th English Premier League appearance for Arsenal this season as they lost 2-1 to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) reports.
Hector Bellerin scored Arsenal’s opener in the 52nd minute after he was played through on goal by Iwobi.
The goal was Bellerin’s second goal in consecutive EPL games for Arsenal.
But two second-half goals from from Callum Wilson and Nigerian-born Jordon Ibe secured a win for Bournemouth at the Vitality stadium.
It was Arsenal’s sixth defeat of the season and the sixth win for Bournemouth.
Arsenal dictated the pace of the game in the first half with Jack Wilshere the main player for the Gunners in his return to his former on-loan club.
Danny Welbeck, Shkodran Mustafi and Maitland Niles all came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half but Bournemouth remained compact at the back.
Arsenal went ahead seven minutes into the second half through Bellerin.
But after Arsenal’s opener Bournemouth mounted pressure and almost restored parity through Ibe who fired a tame shot which was saved by Petr Cech.
Callum Wilson restored parity for Bournemouth in the 70th minute, stabbing home a cross from the right flank before Ibe bagged the winner.
The goal was Ibe’s first for the club in 18 months.
Despite the defeat, Arsenal remain sixth in the EPL table with 39 points from 23 games while Bournemouth moved up to 13th with 24 points from 23 games.
