Nigeria winger, Alex Iwobi, has blamed lack of concentration for Arsenal’s 3-2 away defeat to Southampton in their Premier League clash at the St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Gunners suffered defeat for the first time in 22 games with Danny Ings grabbing a brace and Charlie Austin netting the other for the Saints.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan hit a brace for Arsenal in the encounter.
“I guess we weren’t concentrating throughout the 90 minutes. We had spells where we weren’t defending well as a group. It’s something we have to dust ourselves down from and keep on going. We can’t let our heads drop from this defeat, we just have to push on to the next match,”Iwobi told reporters after the game.
Iwobi has kind words for Southampton who put up a fine performance
to snatch maximum points in the game.
“Of course, they deserve some credit. They had a gameplan and they stuck to it and did well against us. But it’s disappointing from us and we have to keep going again,”he added.
He also expressed his frustration in seeing their unbeaten run end on the south coast.
“Frustration that it’s over. We had a lot of chances to win this game, I believe. But we have to give ourselves a bit of credit that we were able to go on this unbeaten run and now we have to start over again, “Iwobi stated.
Iwobi is also hopeful the team will react positively from the defeat.
“We have to react well, we have to keep on going. It’s a bit unfortunate that there were a couple of injuries but we have to keep on going and keep on fighting throughout the season,”he declared.
The 22-year-old has scored once in 14 league appearances for Arsenal this season.
