Antonion Valencia intercepted Laurent Koscienlny’s pass and exchanged passes with Paul Pogba before drilling a low strike between the legs of Petr Cech.

United got their second of the evening five minutes later courtesy of a fine finish from Jesse Lingard.

Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi was caught in possession inside his own half, which allowed Romelu Lukaku to feed the ball into the feet of Anthony Martial.

Martial did brilliantly to spin and lay the ball into the path of Lingard, who made no mistake with his finish.

The home side fought back afterwards with Mezut Ozil, Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerin coming close on a number of occasions for them.

Arsenal reduced the deficit with four minutes after the break through Alexandre Laccazette.

Aaron Ramsey timed his run to perfection and teed up Lacazette who lashed the ball home.

Lingard got his second and United’s third of the evening in the 63rd minute with a cool finish after he was set up by Pogba.

Pogba was sent-off 16 minutes from time following a rash challenge on Bellerin.

Despite their numerical advantage Arsenal failed to get back into the game.
