Iwobi, Iheanacho, Musa Spearhead Eagles’ Revenge Mission Against Bafana

Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi; Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho and Al Nasr of Saudi Arabia winger, Ahmed Musa will lead Nigeria’s revenge mission at the FNB Stadium on Saturday when they take on the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The trio and eight other members of Gernot Rohr’s 23-man team who were expected to land in Johannesburg in the early hours of Friday were in the June 10,2017 squad that set an unwanted record of being the first Nigerian team to lose to South Africa in a competitive game.

Bafana Coach Baxter Plans To Stifle Eagles’ Momentum With Aggression

South Africa came to the Akwa Ibom International Stadium Uyo,saw and conquered with two second half goals scored by Tokelo Rantie and Percy Muzi Tau.

Iheanacho is well aware of the need to make amends with a success of a revenge mission albeit their names will never be forgotten whenever the history of games between Nigeria and South Africa is to be told.

Interestingly, Chippa United goalie, Daniel Akpeyi who will likely be between the sticks in this mission was in goal on that fateful evening in Uyo with William Troost-Ekong, Oghenekaro Etebo, Iwobi, Iheanacho, Moses Simon starting while Victor Osimhen came in as an 85th minute substitute for Simon.

Golakeeper – Ikechukwu Ezenwa;defender,Kenneth Omeruo, midfielder Mikel Agu and forward,Ahmed Musa were unused substitutes in
that game.

Bafana Midfielder, Maboe: We Won’t Sit Back Against Super Eagles

For Rohr, a win for Nigeria will not only seal their passage to Cameroun 2019 for the 32nd Africa Cup of Nations, it will also be sweet revenge mission accomplished as the Bafana Bafana gave him his first loss as manager of the Super Eagles.

“For Rohr, a win for Nigeria will not only seal their passage to Cameroun 2019 for the 32nd Africa Cup of Nations, it will also be sweet revenge mission accomplished as the Bafana Bafana gave him his first loss as manager of the Super Eagles”.

Many thanks to CSN for this write up hopefully, Coach Rohr’s fans wouldn’t attacks you because you faced the truth.

I deserves some respect from coach Rohr fans on this platform. As they can see, every Nigerian who knows the game of football would wants Eagles to go to the Johannesburg in South Africa for a win mission including CSN period.
Therefore, our main target is to beat this boastful South Africans.

Therefore, it is victory or nothing because Bafana Bafana came to Uyo, beaten Super Eagles including our home fans and some group of people here wants me to praised coach Rohr for having players without any achievement? Mba….. This is very hard to swallow. Even at the world cup this year, what did we achieve? Kudos to late Keshi. Anyways, I wish coach Rohr and his crew a good outing in South Africa. Up Eagles. God bless us all. God bless Nigeria!!!

    • Omo9ja, I quite agree with you on this point that we should all respect the fact that the outcome of this match means different things to different fans.

  • It’s better to leave the post empty than to put Akpeyi in the post. I don’t expect our coach to put him in the post. He is keeping in SA which enable SA players to know his weakness. We all saw his performance in the first encounter.
The newly invited Enyimba keeper is always in action. For him to always bench Ezenwa in his club means that he is better than Ezenwa. The keeper for now is either the newly Enyimba keeper or Ezenwa.
    May God bless Nigeria.

    • [email protected] Na wa for you o. The kind beef wey you get for Akpeyi no be here oo. Me too I’m skeptical about that guy, maybe have more confidence in Afelokahi. But, Shesan, saying the post should be left empty rather than Akpeyi man is stretching the argument. When relaxing in their dressing rooms or hotel rooms, these guys are often on their mobile phones or Ipad, let’s go easy on them please, biko. Thank you.

And for CSN, I can’t believe the writer and editors here can make a basic grammatical error that most Nigerians make today. Common, this is now an international forum, don’t let your reports reflect badly on Nigerians. “….Akpeyi was in goal on that faithful evening in Uyo.” It was “fateful,” not “faithful.” Fateful – luck, hardluck, providence, fortunate, unfortunate — either way. Those concepts. Big up, guys!

      • ** rather than Akpeyi man it is stretching…”

*** It is “fateful,” not “faithful.”

CSN, please add an edit button. Thank you.

I can’t wait to see Theophilus Afelokhai man the post for the Super Eagles.
Mark my words, the same changeable fans who clamoured for and continually sing his praises are the same ones who will ask for Peter Rufai to be invited on his stead next time.
Before the world cup, these same fans will slaughter you for laying a glove of criticism on Uzoho.
Now, they are slowly realising that the young man has his flaws.
The day Akpeyi stops being invited to the Super Eagles will be hallelujah day for many people.
For now, he is still there, so, his haters should continue to be sick to their stomachs for the time being.

Ashy is here again truth be told if today you are our No1 fan and you mess up tomorrow we will speak out just like Madrid fans. This is what they are paid for so if they stop producing result they away instead of giving people heart attack or haven’t you heard people died from Ighalo blunders at the World Cup loss to Argentina. Hmmm football is like small god in Nigeria if you don’t know and these guys are wicked instead of ignoring calls when they are not good enough they will still come and kill people with their blunders

  • I dont know what that goalkeeper Akpeyi is doing in that team?
If he mans our goalpost,South Africa will definitely defeat us.
    Mark my words.

I wish Nigeria could beat south Africa but it seems I’m smelling defeat with the tactics rohr want to use, iheanacho as number 10,Daniel as keeper the Same mistakes he made in the past

I wish yakubu was around Rohr will combine him together with Ighalo and nobody not even pinnick can talk.

  • Who knows what the starting line-up will look like?

  • Pls somebody should tell our coachie, Rhor to mentain Iwobi in the attacking midfield position he played against Lybia. I don’t care who is our top nine, whether Osihmen or Success. Iwobi has got the sensational killer passes that breeds goals upfront. Sir Rhor pls give Osimhen the starting berth to prove his mettle. Plsss stop being afraid after all you can still make substitute afterwards. Thanks.
Osimhen will spring some pleasant surprises on Saturday, if given the chance. I wish the Super Eagles a resounding success on Saturday.
