By Kayode Ogundare in Uyo:

The Super Eagles pre-World Cup training camp opened in Uyo on Monday morning and Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi is the latest player to hit the Ibom Meridian Hotel Camp thereby bringing to five the number of players in Camp.

Iwobi joined vice-captain Ogenyi Onazi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Ola Aina and Bursaspor of Turkey defender William Troost-Ekong as early arrivals.

The Arsenal star touched down at the Ibom International Airport around 12noon aboard a plane from Lagos accompanied by his father Chuka and he was immediately driven off after completing airport formalities.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will have their first feel of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium turf at 5pm after they would have been boosted by the arrival of other players expected in camp.

The Super Eagles are expected to trade tackles with the Leopards of Congo D R next Monday in Port Harcourt before proceeding to London where they will play the Three Lions of England at the Wembley Stadium on 2 June.

Senior Iwobi is jealously guarding his investment o. Anyway the crew are welcome. I want to say something. It is ideal we thank God for all and any good things that happened to us. But saying “God on our side” when you want to play a game against an opponent, I think is not ideal. God created every single person existing today. He is our Father and so he does not show partiality. He doesn’t support one team against the other. He looks at games as entertainment enjoyed by his ‘children .’ A father will be on his chair watching his children play but he doesn’t support one child over the other. So too with God I think. Sometimes I have come to realize that one could actually be accusing God or even abusing him without realising it when we say some words or statement. Some people would say “God of soccer or football was not on our side so we lost the match.”

    Ebola won’t stop Eagles/DRC Friendly-

    By Johnbosco Agbakwuru, Abuja

MINISTER of Youths and Sports Development,
Solomon Dalung, has said that the recent
Ebola outbreak in Democratic of Congo, DRC,
will not stop the planned friendly match
between the Super Eagles and the Leopards
of DRC in the build-up to the World Cup to be
    hosted by Russia.

But the Minister said that before the DRC
team arrives Nigeria, they will be thoroughly
screened in their home country and also be
    screened on arrival to Nigeria.

He said that the football administrators in the
country in collaboration with the Ministry of
    Health have introduced strict screening
policies to ensure that the match takes place.

Dalung who disclosed this while fielding
    questions from State House correspondents
after meeting with President Buhari behind
closed doors enthused that the Super Eagles
will be in Russia to win the cup and not as
mere participants to make up the numbers.
He expressed satisfaction with the selection
process of players by the Technical Adviser.

  • I fervently hope that this match comes and goes without deleterious effects on the SuperEagles. Let’s not take our eyes off the main event – Russia 2018.

  • Haba, screen the Congo team well, well so we do not get Ebola ooo!

  • It’s time to show love and peace between Nigeria and d world
