Alex Iwobi returned to action on Saturday for Arsenal who needed a stoppage time penalty to beat Southampton 2-1 on Saturday.

It was their second win of the campaign after losing to Liverpool in their first game and sharing the spoils against Leicester.

The Nigerian international who missed the Gunners' last two games due to a muscle injury came on for Theo Walcot in the 74th minute of the encounter that saw Arsenal squander several chances towards the end of the game.

It was Iwobi's second appearance for Iwobi this season after featuring in the Gunners opening day defeat to Liverpool.

Southampton created the first real chance of the encounter in the 14th minute when Jay Rodriguez failed connect Cedric's cross into the penalty area. 

The Saints lucky to have taken the lead four minutes later when Dusan Tadic's freekick from around 20 yards out richoceted off the back of Petr Cech into the net.

Stand-in skipper Laurent Koscielny restored parity for Arsenal with an overhead kick inside the box.

Santi Carzola sealed the win for the Gunners from the spot after Jose Fonte was penalised for a pull on Oliver Giroud's shirt in the box.

The win sees Arsenal move up to fifth in the English Premier League standings with seven points from four games.

The Gunners travel to the Parc de Prince on Tuesday to face PSG in the UEFA Champions  League before facing Hull City at the 
KCOM Stadium next Saturday.
