Nigeria youngster, Alex Iwobi gave a brilliant account of himself in his first ever UEFA Champions League game but it wasn't enough as Barcelona defeated Arsenal 3-1 to advance into the quarter-finals, winning theirtwo-legged contest 5-1 on aggregate.
Goals from Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi sealed the win for Barcelona. While Elneny got Arsenal's only goal.
Arsenal had the first sight on goal on 3rd minute through Danny Welbeck but his shot was adjudged to have come off Mascherano.
In the 10th minute Ozil came close to put Arsenal ahead but narrowly missed the target.
Gabriel made a timely block off a Messi strike in the 12th minute.
In the 15th minute Elneny took a long range shoot but it didn't bother Ter Stegen.
Ospina made a brilliant one-on-one save from Messi on 17 minutes off a Neymar through pass.
Neymar opened the scoring on 18 minutes off a Suarez assist after Kocielny
gave the ball away.
In the 26th minute, Flamini aimed a strike from outside the 18-yard box but his effort went over the bar.
Ospina made a save in the 30th minute from a Neymar low drive.
In the 35th minute Macherano seem to have clipped Iwobi in the 18-yard box but the referee waved it away.
Sanchez had a very good chance in the 40th minute but headed inches off the post.
A minute later, Macherano made a vital block after Welbeck made a quick one-two pass with Iwobi.
Arsenal made their first change on the dot of 45 minutes with Francis Coquelin replacing Mathieu Flamini.
Iwobi almost equalised for Arsenal in the 49th minute only for Macherano blocking the ball for a corner.
Elneny made it 1-1 in the 51st minute, curling a fine strike beyond Ter Stegen following a Sanchez assist.
Messi came close for Barcelona in the 56th minute but Ospina palmed the ball away.
Macherano once again made a timely block from Welbeck following Mathieu's misjudging the flight of the ball.
Suarez restored Barcelona's lead in the 65th minute, volleying pass a stranded Ospina off an assist from Alves.
Welbeck was put through by Iwobi only to hit his left-foot shot against the post.
In the 73rd minute, Iwobi and Welbeck were replaced by Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud.
Ter Stegen made a brilliant save from sanchez free-kick, made another save from a Giroud rebound before Alves headed away for a corner.
Messi got on the score sheet for Barcelona on 88 minutes, lifting the ball over Ospina to make it 3-1.
