Iwobi Unlucky As Arsenal, PSG Draw; Messi Bags Brace; Iheanacho Benched

Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi made his fourth start for Arsenal who drew their UEFA Champions League clash 2-2 at home to Paris Saint Germain at the Emirates stadium on Wednesday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.


The 20-year-old, who was restored to the Gunners starting line-up after being an unused substitute in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford, was replaced in the 77th minute by Granit Xhaka.

Edinson Cavani gave the reigning French champions the lead in the 18th minute for his fifth strike in the competition but Oliver Giroud leveled scores on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot after Alexis Sanchez was brought down by Grzegorz Krychowiak in the box.

An own goal by Marci Verratti in the 59th minute put Arsenal 2-1 up but Lucas Moura’s header with the slightest with an unfortunate touch from Iwobi handed the Parisians a valuable point from the game.

The draw saw PSG regain top spot in Group A with a superior head to head over Arsenal after five games.

In the other fixture in Group A, Ludogorets Razgrad played out a goalless draw at home to Basel.

The final round of matches in Group A will see the Gunners travel to Basel while Paris Saint Germain host Ludogorets Razgrad.

In Group B, Turkish champions Besiktas came from three goals down to draw Benfica 3-3 at the Vodafone Arena in Turkey.

Goals from Goncalo Guedes, Nelsinho and Ljubomir Fejsa gave Benfica a 3-0 lead into the interval but a second half comeback from Besiktas with strikes from Cenk Tosun, Ricardo Quaresma from the spot and Vincent Aboubakar nicked a point for Senol Gunes’ side.

In Group C, Kelechi Iheanacho watched from the bench as Manchester City and Borussia Moenchengladbach played out a 1-1 draw at the Borussia-Park.

Raffael gave the hosts the lead in the 23rd minute but David Silva sealed a point for the Citizens on the stroke of half time.

At Celtic Park, Barcelona completed a double over Celtic handing out 2-0 win over the Hoops.

A brace from Lionel Messi sealed top spot for the Catalan giants in Group C with 13 points with a game to spare. Manchester City are second with eight points from five games.

In Group D, FC Rostov recorded their first win of the campaign with a 3-2 win over Bayern Munich while Atletico Madrid beat Dutch side PSV Eindhoven 2-0 to advance to the next round of the competition.
