Iwobi: Welbeck Is My Arsenal First Team Mentor

Nigerian teen star Alex Iwobi has revealed that Danny Welbeck helped him settle into the first team at Arsenal.

Iwobi shone in recent weeks after establishing himself in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI ahead of established stars like Theo Walcot and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

And the teenager revealed Welbeck has helped him make the smooth transition from a fringe player to first team regular.

“Danny Welbeck has taken me under his wing,” Iwobi told Arsenal’s official website.

“He’s been helping me a lot because he is a young English player that came through at Manchester United, so he knows what it’s like.

“He came through at a young age so he is always helping me or having banter with me and making me feel comfortable. I think it is key [to feel comfortable] and they have all welcomed me.”

The 19-year-old Iwobi has scored twice for the north Londoners since making his first Premier League start against Everton.

He opened his Gunners account in his first start against the Toffees before he bagged his second in the win over Watford.
