Jacobs Out To Unify Division

Daniel Jacobs called out Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez as he looks to unify the division after beating Sergiy Derevyanchenko. The American claimed the vacant IBF title at Madison Square Garden, New York, courtesy of a split decision.

Jacobs – now a two-time world middleweight champion – put Derevyanchenko on the canvas in the first round and that knockdown proved crucial when it came to the judges’ scorecard.

He wasted little time in switching his focus to ‘Canelo’ who will step up to super-middleweight to face Rocky Fielding in December, as he looks to try and unify the division.

Jacobs told HBO: “We absolutely want ‘Canelo’, I think that’s a fight the fans want, especially those who are in agreement when I say I beat ‘Triple G’.

“This would be a great fight for the fans and now I’ve got this strap, there’s more in the pudding for everyone.
“Let’s make this fight. ‘Triple G’ is no longer a champion and I want to go for the champions, then I’ll give him the rematch.”
