Newcastle United are said to have run the rule over Groningen winger Ritsu Doan, with an eye to a January swoop.
Manager Rafael Benitez is hoping to strengthen in the winter window as the Magpies try to stave off the threat of relegation.

Goals have been hard to come by for the Tynesiders, with only 13 in the league all season and, while Doan is not a prolific scorer, he can operate on both flanks and bolster Benitez’s options out wide.
Capped three times by Japan, the 20-year-old has been on the radar of Premier League champions Manchester City who were linked last summer, and it is thought his Eredivisie club would be willing to sell for somewhere in the region of £2million.
