Jasmine Nwajei was the standout performer for First Bank Basketball Club of Nigeria who finished third at the just concluded FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women in Mozambique following their 93-69 defeat of V-Club of Democratic Republic of Congo in the third-place match on Sunday reports Completesportsnigeria.com
It was the third time in a row that the First Bank Basketball Club were claiming bronze at the tournament.
First Bank Basketball Club lost the first quarter 21-14 but bounced back to win the second quarter 27-9.
In the third quarter which was keenly contested the First Bank Basketball Club won 23-22 before finishing off the fourth quarter with a 29-17 win.
Nwajei was the top scorer for First Bank Basketball Club posting a double-double.
The 23-year-old, Nwajei recorded a game-high 23 points, three rebounds, four assists, and five steals in 28 minutes for the Zenith Bank National Women’s League Champions.
Cecilia Okoye also posted her first double-double of the competition with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Elephant girls.
Nkechi Akashili had 15 points, Nkem Akaraiwe and Ginette Mfutila each scored 11 points while Malaika Green added 10 points.
Prior to the third-place match, the current Zenith Bank National Women’s League Champions, First Bank Basketball Club finished top of their group having won all four of their games to book a quarter-final ticket.
Meanwhile, hosts Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique defeated five-time champions, InterClube de Luanda from Angola 59-56 in the finals on Sunday at Maxaquene Stadium.
