John Mastoroudes: Sadly, Eagles Are A Mediocre Team

John_MastoroudesI watched with dismay the game of the Super Eagles and could not believe that after all that expectation the reality is that our team is very mediocre. There was no beginning and no end! Even though we cannot accuse our players of not trying, we can only conclude that they did not exhibit the quality of the World Cup standard.

Our defence was not put under pressure but whenever the Iranians approached our goal mouth, our defenders were very shaky and we must thank our Vincent Enyeama for saving us on two occasions.

Furthermore, with our team having superior ball possession I did not see our full backs assisting the midfield neither were they overlapping with success. Both Ogenyi Onazi and Ramon Azeez performed badly, losing easily the ball in the midfield and making many mistakes in their final passes. They left Mikel Obi on his own and he worked so hard that I was not surprised when he was voted MVP of the game. Our forwards were full of barking but no bite!! Musa and Emenike were well below par and I could not understand why Victor Moses (our only creative player) was replaced.

UBA Super Savers

It is very easy to criticise after the event, but we had many signals on the wall about the inefficiencies of our team which we refused to read. Instead we were debating on whether we would reach the quarter-finals or semi-finals. As things stand today, our qualification to the next round appears to be hard, but not impossible. Let us hope that we can get a good result at our next game against Bosnia. All we can do is support and send our team good energy.

As for Ghana, all this talk about how well they played reminds me of the adage that says “the operation was successful but the patient died!’’. The US goalkeeper did not have to make any difficult save! They also have a difficult task of qualifying for the next round.

The Germans showed us why they are one of the favourites. A very good performance.
The football played in this World Cup continues to be at a very high level, very exciting and I do not mind staying up at all hours to watch.

  • YOU ARE RIGHT MR BUT WE HOPE KESHI AND THE BOYS DO BETTER THAN THAT RUBBISH THEY CALL FOOTBALL.

This is a very candid analysis of the match. It bothers me to believe that no game plan was seen in action for the entirety of the match. I wonder what the long balls were meant to achieve when the strikers lack understanding and awareness of their positions and that of their partners on the field of play.

  • Not Mastroudes again. He did not have the courtesy to swallow his words after AFCON did he?

The super eagles only player is mikel,he has stood the test of time in chelsea. Nigerian should keep their heads up in their respective clubs and come back for the next world cup.

I strongly support John, on his ,comment. especially, on Ghana’s match. The whole match was just like meaningless. To me , overconfident was what finished the team in 2010 n d same thing repeated itself this year . With d hope of beaten US as usual, but forgotten that other teams too will prepare in order to win.

  • moses could have made a diffrance if not keshi mistake. My prediction for today match is nig 2 bosnia 1, up nig, up eagle, up keshi.

Keshi is his own down fall. How could a coach fail to know that dribblers like Moses and Osaze playing at the same time on the pitch could result in free kicks, yellow cards to less their opponents marking and goal started coming. From 75 minutes down, when pressure on his defensive opponents was more intensed,he needed dribblers like these two guys.
