Slavisa Jokanovic believes Odion Ighalo is currently one of the best strikers in the Championship after the 25-year-old scored his ninth goal in six league games on Saturday.
The Nigerian’s second-half strike against Blackburn Rovers sealed a narrow 1-0 victory for the below-par Hornets at Vicarage Road.
Ighalo arrived at Watford in the summer from fellow Pozzo-owned club Granada but didn’t make a league start until the end of September.
A brief run in the side followed before Troy Deeney returned from injury and partnered Matej Vydra up front.
However, Vydra’s performances dropped off and Ighalo was restored to starting XI against Cardiff City on December 28.
He netted in south Wales and has been in excellent form since. And, speaking after Saturday’s victory, Jokanovic praised the striker.
He said: “Ighalo has started this year very well. He has scored many goals in very few games. He is probably one of the best strikers in the league at the moment. Ighalo has had a lot of experience in a different league and now he has best years.
