Journalist Sparks Outrage In Egypt After Asking Salah To Shave “Terrorist” Beard

An Egyptian journalist Salah Montaser is at the centre of a Social Media storm after his “suggestion” that national team star Mohamed Salah should shave his beard which makes him look like a “terrorist” was roundly condemned across the North African country.

Montaser, a columnist with the state-run newspaper Al-Ahram, said Salah should shave his beard as it “puts him in one basket with extremists…. and terrorists.”

According to the Associated Press, Egyptian fans criticized the article on social media, saying facial hair is a personal choice and that people shouldn’t be judged on their appearance.

Salah is hugely popular in Egypt after helping the national team qualify for the 2018 World Cup as well as winning the CAF African Footballer of the Year.

He’s also the Premier League’s joint-top scorer, with Tottenham’s Harry Kane, with 24 goals this season. He is on one of the best scoring sprees in Europe’s big five leagues right now.

The Liverpool forward has grown in leaps and bounds since returning to the Premier League last summer after a hugely productive stint with Italian side AS Roma.

I guess Soyinka also looks like a terrorist and that means you are also putting Jesus Christ in that same basket

@Onaigbuki,I guess it also makes every other player who started keeping beards before Salah was known bigger terrorists?
This is how dump and slow some of you think.
If you are a christian, I wonder what you will call Jesus peace be upon him according to his potrait.
    Let me guess;I terrorist?
Some of you just comment without engaging your brains.

He does look like a terrorist. Shave off those beards my friend.

  • I am forced to comment because Jesus is linked to unkept beard and hair. The fact is that there is no picture or sculpture of Jesus and I believe there was no camera then and the Israelites were not too keen on making a sculpture of themselves like the Romans. So any unkept beard and hair artist impression of Jesus is just the artist(s) opinion. In my opinion, Jesus was a neat man. His beards and hair were well kept or else children wouldn’t have approached him freely and of course, trust mothers, none of them will like to thrust their kids to a man with unkept hair and beard!!!! It is Satan that wants artists to portrait Jesus as unkept. It is only Jehovah’s Witnesses artists that give a neat portraits of Jesus Christ. Take a look at their artist impression of Jesus. My advise to Salah: you are not a terrorist(?) but take the advise of that journalist and take care of your beard and hair. You look unkept and dirty. Meanwhile, don’t judge a man from his appearance (and facial expressions).
