By Adeboye Amosu: Al Ahly forward, Junior Ajayi, is happy with his inclusion in the 2017 Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Team of the Year and has set his sights on securing a place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Ajayi who got married in Lagos to Tamilore Tawakalat Salami in an elaborate wedding ceremony on Saturday, beat Liverpool forward Saido Mane and Algeria’s Yacine Brahimi in the offensive midfield position.
The 21-year-old former Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan striker got 64 per cent out of 7,261 of votes cast, Mane secured 20 per cent, while Brahimi got 15 per cent.
“I want to start by thanking the fans who voted for me. It’s a big honour to be named in the CAF team of the year ahead of some established stars in the continent.”Ajayi told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“It’s always good when you get recognised for your effort on the pitch and this will spur me to even get better.
“The World Cup is coming up next year in Russia and it will be great to be part of the team.
” I will keep working hard and hopefully, the recognition will come at the end of the day.”
Ajayi was part of Nigeria U-23 team that won the African title in Senegal in 2015 and bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Rohr, Look at Ajayi’s way for God’s sake. Ighalo is OK, but his glorious days are getting over. In other words, how many goals has Ighalo actually scored apart from one goal he scored for Nigeria against Cameroon at Home. Equally too, seriously look at Paul Unuachu. These are young Nigerians who deserves a serious considerations to lace their booth for their father’s land.
