JOB DONE: How Super Eagles Rated Vs Poland

Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU rates the performances of the Super Eagles players in Friday’s 1-0 friendly win against Poland at the Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw…

The young goalkeeper recovered from a poor start to make a couple of vital saves in the game. He grew in confidence as the game wore on and certainly justified his selection ahead of the more experienced Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

The right-back gave away fouls in dangerous positions twice and failed to impress in the game. He did not play up to his usual high standards.

The centre-back who captained the team in the absence of Mikel Obi was Nigeria’s best defender in the game. He made several vital clearances and did well to stop Poland hitman and captain Robert Lewandowski from getting a goal in the game.

Not one of his best games for the three-time African champions. Balogun was caught out of position a few times and looked a bit rusty.

He was picked ahead of the more experienced Elderson Echiejile but failed to justify his inclusion in the starting line-up. The Amkar Perm of Russia left-back did not defend well and failed to support the attack.

The Leicester City midfielder put up an average showing in the game. He was however Nigeria’s busiest midfielder in the encounter.

He was eager to make an impression on the technical crew and was all over the pitch in the game. Lucky to escape without injury despite a few rough tackles from the Poles. He did not do his World Cup chances any harm.

A below-par showing from the Leicester City man who failed to thrive in an advanced midfield position in the absence of captain Mikel Obi.

Started the game brightly but fizzled out and was duly substituted early in the second half by Ahmed Musa.

Was lively after the break following an average showing in the first half. He won and converted the penalty for the only goal of the game.

The China- based striker was not at his best, he failed to give the Polish defence any problems and posed no threat. He was duly subbed off for Moses Simon late in the game.

Took the place of Alex Iwobi but did little or nothing to make any positive impact in the game.

He was supposed to help stabilise the midfield after coming on for Joel Obi, but he did not post his usual energetic display.

Did little to help his cause following an error-strewn performance after his introduction in the second half.

Proved a capable replacement for Shehu Abdullahi as he prevented the hosts from finding the equalising goal.

Did enough to help the Super Eagles protect their lead after replacing Kelechi Iheanacho.

Not rated.

what kind of rating is this.. with a clean sheet, you still gave the defenders this low ratings… how now.. what exactly are you expecting from the back lines ..well is your site.. your tating

  • Den wit dis rating player like umar sadiq . Efe abrose
Adegbenro awoniyi oseme needed to come for trials

  • Arnold 5 years ago

It’s not about being his site. Rating was spot on. Clean sheet or not they were poor. Our savings grace is that Poland didn’t not bring in their A game which they portrayed during their qualification. If not we for hear am. The weakness of the Poland strikers gave them the small rating they got because left for me they were low.

    • Saving grace as how? Poland gave all they could over, they just couldn’t get the win, don’t undermine our win over them.

    • Kester 5 years ago

Can we then say both teams put up a below par performance?

    • Bomboy 5 years ago

      Spot on Arnold. Very correct

  • John .D 5 years ago

I disagree with you, this is their A team of course, only two or three players were not in the squad, we plaid against one of FIFA top ten team,we won on thier home soil, good result but work in progress.our defence was tested and they gave a good account of themselves for not conceed8ng a goal.I think this was a very good test for our team and I believe GR will make sum adjustment as they progress, kudos to troost ekong and moses.

    • The both teams had 90 mins to express them selves and the better team won….even though we had a poor outing as well.Mind you we were playing in Poland. Some observations of course, were noted. Even Rhor acknowledged those flaws but it all work in progress.KUDOS

Francis Uzoho: Made a hoax of a cross which nearly allowed Krychowiak to prod over the line but for Balogun’s clearance. Looked tensive in stretches though his point blank save to deny Lewandowski was phenomenal. 8/10

Shehu Abdullahi: Pushed up from right and looked to instigate attack. Came off for Tyronne Ebuehi after some discomfort. 7/10

William Troost-Ekong: Marshalled the backline with his sturdy challenges and always put his body on the line. 8/10

Leon Balogun: Failed to track down Robert Lewandowski who struck the woodwork in the opening stages before making a crucial goal line clearance. A satisfactory performance though. 8/10

Brian Idowu: Did his fair share of defensive contribution but offered very little going forward. 7/10

Wilfred Ndidi: Was full of life in the midfield battle though passing was erratic. 7/10

Joel Obi: Added a physical edge to his game and always looked to connect with the attackers. 7/10

Alex Iwobi: Showed flashes of brilliance and tricky footwork down the left flank but final balls came to nothing. Came off in the second half for Ahmed Musa. 7/10

Victor Moses: Went on a few mazy runs but failed to break down a resilient Polish defence. Picked himself to convert from the spot after he was felled in the area. 8/10

Kelechi Iheanacho: Was largely kept quiet and drifted backward to pick up stray balls. Was replaced by John Ogu in the closing stages. 6/10

Odion Ighalo: Always looked to get in behind Kalil Glik and Kaminski and held up the ball on occasions. 7/10

Ahmed Musa: Went on his trademark runs during his short time on the pitch though nothing spectacular was carved out. 5/10

Ogenyi Onazi: Helped shore up middle after coming on with keeping passing simple. 5/10

Kenneth Omeruo: Brought on to help curtail the Poland attack. 5/10

Tyronne Ebuehi: Helped the defence to hold onto their slender advantage though had very little to do.

John Ogu: Merely added fresh legs after coming on.

Moses Simon: Spent very little time on the pitch to be scrutinized.

How can the be the correct ratings, wonder if this guy saw the game? Bali hun a 4? Iwobi 5 and Kelechi 4? How is Ndidi a 5 and you say he was the best midfielder but you also gave Joel Obi a 5.Make una no de do anyhow.

  • Temitope Babatunde Olowomeye 5 years ago

Nigerians in the majority are never satisfied, with a team that came together on Monday-had their first training on small pitch (according to report) on Tuesday and defeat one of the world’s top ten team right there in their backyard and you rated the players in this manner! Haba, Amosu you will be very wicked. Pls let give the players some kudos irrespective of the way they played at least they tried.

  • Ojo Samuel 5 years ago

This rating is not just fair enough to the central defence… Leon Balogun cleared a ball from the line and ekong was just superb

    • Bomboy 5 years ago

Leon Balogun didnt clear any ball off the line. That was a clear goal the ref disallowed. We were lucky!

  • winning away from home is not a walk in d park ok..oya change those ratings…ah ah!

  • Kudos to the boys jare!

  • emeka 5 years ago

just don’t know how some pple analyse football, I mean those commending d team are not blind to some of the shortcoming of the team,bt as a teacher u must first off all comend ur student for a job done before correction to put them in d right frame of mind to receive d correction, jux like d coach said that d team played well and won without their most important player which is the captain, let us also note that Poland are the 6th ranked team in the word, plus d fact that we played in there home ground, with one of d world most deadliest striker in Robert lewandowski, and those of u blaming aghalo am sure u don’t watch d match cus if u do u won’t b complaining I mean how many times was he giving a tru pass I mean a pass dat will put him one on one with d goalkeeper, and if u watched d match u will hear when d commentator said ighalo is a harmful if u give him a half chance he will convert,so in conclusion let part dem in d back and they will do more

  • Nawa o! Thank God u are not a lecturer but a sport journalist.
Upon ur comments for Ekong and Joel, u still scored them 6 and 5?
Well…I wonder what u will score Echiejile if he plays.

  • Mumitee 5 years ago

Thank u @emeka those guys played well yesterday though they had their shortcomings, even Poland that is at home did not play too impressively either. Nawa for complete sport this ur rating is very poor, I was just so angry reading it, how would u rate a Leon balogun 4, he did many clearance and even held on to leawandowski, he had little or nothing to offer that was why he was removed after we scored, he played really well and the team generally, to me mosses, ekong, balogun, ndidi and even Joel that is just making a comeback were all superb, and ighalo was able to hold on to the ball anytime he sees it. Good play from the boys and they deserve our praise.

  • Solo B. 5 years ago

    Kudos to the boys.
The most important thing in soccer is winning whether you play well or not when you know how to win you are the winner. Play the best brand of soccer without scoring your football is nothing.
Fifa rating of the two teams means the polish team should white wash the SE. One on one comparing of players, our players would come second when looking the positions of their clubs.
Yes we know the coordination was not that great but did expect the SE to out play the polish in the home? A team rated sixth in the world? Nigeria is not even sixth in Africa.

  • Why you been so wicked playing to 6 team at their own backyard is not eating oo why didn’t they win us at their own land if they ar better than us how una dey rate any how sef

  • ede thankgod 5 years ago

dis ur rating be like say u no watch de game cos our players tried very wel 2 win lewandoski at his home town no be small tin ooo
