Kalika: Eagles Can Beat France

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Former Super Eagles assistant coach Simon Kalika is adamant that Stephen Keshi’s team can reach the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup.

The Eagles will confront Didier Deschamps’ men on Monday in Brasillia in the Round of 16 after their runners-up finish in Group F.

“The Super Eagles have been improving in each game and this World Cup have shown that every team must be taken seriously,” Kalika remarked.

“France have a fantastic team at the World Cup without any crisis this time unlike in their past two major tournaments and they are really a strong candidate now for the World Cup title.

“But we should not underestimate what this group of Super Eagles can achieve. Yes, we were all shocked to see some good players dropped from the team but the ones in Brazil have raised their game since the opening game disappointment.

“If they remain committed and disciplined throughout the game, and with luck on their side, they can defeat France,” Kalika told Completesportsnigeria.com from his base in Armsterdam.

The recent meeting between Nigeria and France was on June 3, 2009, in an international friendly which Nigeria won 1-0 thanks to a Joseph Akpala goal, with the full complement of French stars on parade in the match.

I strongly believe that the super eagles are in the world cup to make the history of being the first African nation to win the world cup. Despite all hurdles they have to confront, they must accomplish this mission.
