Harry Kane scored again as Tottenham failed to close the gap on Premier League leaders Leicester City after they dropped two points following their 1-1 away to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
After a goalless first half which saw little from the two sides but with Liverpool getting more shots on target than Spurs, the second half came alive with the Reds upping the tempo in search of a goal.
And they were rewarded when Phillipe Coutinho scored his side’s opener in the 51st minute after a quick one-two with Daniel Sturridge freed him to simply side foot the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
But Kane restored parity for Spurs after he calmly finished off Christian Eriksen’s slice pass in the 63rd minute.
The goal saw Liverpool forced back with Spurs mounting pressure to take the lead with Eriksen 20 yards shot denied by Simon Mignolet.
Alli almost proved to be the hero but the England international’s was slightly heavy that Mignolet is able to sweep up.
Eriksen could have won it for Spurs from a free-kick outside the box but his effort sailed wide.
Tottenham remain second with 62 points four adrift Leicester City who host Southampton on Sunday while Liverpool moved up to ninth with 45 points from 30 games.
