–Ex Nigeria captain rallies support for AFCON qualification

Former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu has declared Nigeria will bounce back to top reckoning soon and in style.

Nigeria are now ranked a disappointing 45th in the world by FIFA.

And last year, the three-time African champions failed to qualify for AFCON 2015 after they won the tournament in South Africa in 2013.

The former African champions were without a coach for over seven months and were bedeviled with a major instability in the management of the game at home.

However, former Arsenal, Ajax and Inter Milan star Kanu has now said all that is in the past and the country will soon be back in forefront of the game.

“In life there are ups and downs. The last few months we have faced serious trying times in our football. But right now that is in the past,” he said.

“There has been no time I have lost confidence in the Eagles. The Eagles will bounce back better than ever.”

“Now is time for all the stake holders and the NFF to ensure that we rally round the team and help them succeed as the AFCON qualifiers gets underway next month.

“We have the talent that can do it, but we must support them to succeed because they cannot do it alone.”

Keshi has been re-appointed the country’s coach and he will begin his qualifying campaign for the 2017 AFCON in June at home against unknown Chad.

Egypt and Tanzania are the others teams in this qualifying pool.
