–Ex Eagles captain confident Lille of France goalie will topple Yaya
Former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu says Nigeria and Lille of France goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has done well enough for both club and country and could topple Yaya Toure to become African Player of the Year.
Enyeama was named by CAF on Wednesday in the final list of three players for the coveted award slated for Lagos on January 8, 2015.
Pierre -Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon who plays his club football with Borussia Dortmund of Germany as well as Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast and Manchester City of England were also listed in the three man final short list.
“I believe Vincent (Enyeama) stands a very good chance of winning the African Player of the Year award come January 2015”, the former Arsenal of England leggy striker offered.
Vincent is a good goalkeeper of high quality and everybody knows this.
“He has done well for his club and the Super Eagles and on the strength of this, I believe it won’t be a surprise if the selectors pick him as the African Player of the year,” Kanu added.
The ex-international admitted each of the trio is good for the crown giving their individual performances for their respective clubs and country during the period under review, he posited that it’s not impossible for Enyeama to upstage the Ivorien midfielder.
“Yaya Toure has done well, he’s also the current holder of the award but at the same time Vincent has also done well for the Super Eagles and his club, Lille.
“It will be a plus for him and the country if as a goalkeeper he is eventually picked for the award and while I sincerely wish him well I believe it will be an honour well deserved.”
