–Backs Super Eagles forward to impress in England
Erstwhile Super Eagles skipper, Nwankwo Kanu has hailed Brown Ideye’s move to English Premiership side West Bromwich Albion.
Ideye linked up with the Baggies from Dynamo Kiev in a three-year deal worth £10million on Friday.
The two time African Player of the year urged Ideye to prove his mettle at the Hawthorns, after his display in helping Nigeria win the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Ideye becomes the fifth Nigerian player to sign for the Baggies after Ifeanyi Udeze, Kanu Nwankwo, Osaze Odemwingie and Victor Anichebe.
“Congratulations Ideye. Go and make us proud, I wish you all the best in West Bromwich FC. Show the league and fans what you can do,” the former Arsenal player tweeted via his twitter handle @papilokanu.
Ideye, who won the African Nations Cup with Nigeria in February 2013, was inexplicably left out of the World Cup squad that crashed in the round of 16 to France.
The forward who is expected to partner compatriot Victor Anichebe in Alan Irvine’s new look attack, has been handed the number 9 jersey.
“Brown is a quality striker and I’m looking forward to working with him,” declared head coach Alan Irvine, speaking to the club’s official website.
“He’s a strong, quick, powerful player who likes to get in behind defences and has plenty of Champions League and international experience.”
The striker arrives in English football with 23 international caps to his name, scoring five goals.
