Former Nigeria captain, Nwankwo Kanu has confirmed his sports complex in Owerri, Kanu Sports Center, is venue for this year's edition of Nwankwo Kanu Children's Carnival, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The former Arsenal of England leggy forward who last week buried his mother, Sussan Nwannediya Kanu Iheme, said the idea behind the carnival is to provide succour to the kids, as well as bring them together to savour the Yuletide festivities together.

"It's all about giving back to the kids for Christmas," the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games Soccer Gold Medal winner with Nigeria's U-23 Dream Team Eagles said to Completesportsnigeria.com.

The event, which started on December 10 at Kanu Nwankwo Sports Center, behind Imo State University, Owerri, will end on December 18.

"We hope to get the kids together, for eight (8) days, at Kanu Sports Center, Owerri.

"It's my own little way of providing for the little kids.

"It's important, coming together to catch fun at Christmas time,"the former Inter Milan striker said.
