Kanu: Super Eagles Will Make Us Proud

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

The shocking 5-1 mauling suffered by world champions, Spain, in the hands of their deputy, Holland on Friday, seems to reinvigorate the belief in the minds of Nigerians that the Super Eagles can as well spring surprises in Brazil 2014 and that includes former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu.

The 1996 and 1999 African Footballer of the Year took to Twitter to send a short, but heartwarming goodwill message to Stephen Keshi’s team in the wee hours of Saturday.

“The beautiful game. This is the World Cup and our team, the African champions will make us proud. They will make history.

“Come on Super Eagles, come on Nigeria,” Papilo tweeted.

The Eagles will open their World Cup campaign with a Group F clash against Iran in Curitiba at 8pm on Monday night.

Kanu has on several occasions called on Nigerians to support Keshi’s team for the World Cup, despite the shocking decision by the ‘Big Boss’ to wield his ‘power’ and drop several quality players from the final squad of 23.

Kanu played at the 1998, 2002 and 2010 World Cup finals.
