Kanu: Things Are Changing For The Better For Super Eagles

By Johnny Edward:

Former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu believes that there is more better fortunes to come the way of the Nigeria team after their early exit from the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The former Arsenal and West Brom star also believes the gap between African teams as against their European counterparts is not completely cut adrift.

Nigeria will play away to Seychelles in their second group game in September in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The three time African Champions lost their opening group game at home to South Africa.

“I can tell you things are about to change,” Kanu said during the launch of Petrolex Kanu Cup 2018 in London.

“The organisation and preparation of African teams have improved. Nigeria had the youngest team out in Russia, which means they can improve.

“It was the first time we have gone without issues in the camp about money or travel, everything was OK.”

“There is sponsorship, they use chartered flights. The trust that was lost is coming back. We can do better next time.”

“A lot of our players are playing in Europe, maybe not at the biggest clubs.”

  • “A lot of our players are playing in Europe, maybe not at the biggest clubs.”

I know that the above statement by Kanu is one of the greatest frustrations of many Super Eagles fans.

They look at Mane moving mountains in Liverpool and Salah slaying all before him at the same club.

Then you come to our beloved Nigeria and Ighalo is gallivanting the goals in China while Lokosa is losing out on trials in Scandinavia.

The more decent ones like Moses and Iwobi just about make the starting 11 in their clubs.

But take heart my brothers and sisters. Better days are indeed in the horizon.

It doesn’t bother me as such if many our players are not playing for Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich (it would be great if they do).

However, it will be unsatisfactory if our players are not active where they play their football.

As it stands, Nigeria remains a tough proposition for any side in Africa with the nature of our World Cup qualification emphasising just that fact.

With the exemption of the match against Croatia and the last 10 minutes against Argentina, the Super Eagles actually gave a decent account of themselves at the World Cup in Russia.

Now with promising young talents like Nwakali, Iheanacho, Uzoho and Ndidi coming to their own in the next few years, coupled with the new found approach to tournament preparation pioneered by Amaju Pinnick’s NFF, the future does look bright for the Super Eagles and the teeming fans.

I see Nigeria going back to those years of failure if Chris Giwa emerges NFF president . Please Amaju Pinnick should be left alone to continue his good works .

Something is definitely wrong with this country, imagine a man Chris Goes who wants to lead our football desperately, taking our football to court when he knows the implications. Giwa should be expelled from Nigeria football, he wants to destroy it with that Morron of a minister.
