By Johnny Edward:
Olanrewaju is gutted to have been left out of Nigeria’s 30 man provisional squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Kayode who has made three international appearances for Nigeria was overlooked by Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr who handed maiden call-ups to Crotone’s Simy Nwankwo and Junior Lokosa from Kano Pillars at the expense of the Manchester City striker and the duo of Henry Onyekuru and Brown Ideye.
“I’ve been in the team for three games. I’m gutted to be missing out,” Kayode opened up in a chat with CSN.
The 25 year old however remains confident that the three-time African champions can still do well in Russia.
“But we’ve got a strong side, so we’ve got a really good chance.
“Our first game is massive. If we can win it, we have got a big chance of going to the next round.”
Kayode signed a six-month loan deal at Shakhtar Donetsk in January from Manchester City and has scored two goals in four league appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk
The 25 year old clinched the Ukrainian league title and the Cup in his short stint at the club.

Work on your technique and finishing pace is nothing without finishing and technique
Chima, so u truely believed that Simy, Lokosa, Iwobi and Iheanacho are better than Kayode ?
Rohr should ve invitesd Uche uchembo, Nwakaeme, Gabriel Okechukwu, and Uche Nwiafor. All fine strikers better than Kayode and Ajayi all day.
This guy☝,what are you saying?..
sunnyb…oga ooo…is it ajayi that was named in the African team of the year or kayode that brought guardiola to his attention! as for me….though the list is very OK …ajayi jnr is that big name that was omitted
Kayode is a good striker, but it was not Nwofor, Uchebo, Okechukwu that prevented him. He is simply not in the same class as Ighalo, Musa, Iheanacho, Nwankwo, Okonkwo, Okonjo, Okafor and Okoli. Gernot Rohr has been kind enough to field him three times and he just did not spark. The guy went to Girona in Spain, and was hardly fielded, did not score a single goal. He’s doing well at Donetzk, but the train has already left. Let us not draft mediocrity into the Super Eagles like we do in JAMB
Better luck next time kayode
