Kenya’s Former World 400m Hurdles Champion Bett Dies In Car Crash

Kenya’s former 400m hurdles world champion Nicholas Bett has been reported dead at the aged 28.

Bett a 2015 world champion in the 400m hurdles, died in an early-morning car crash on Wednesday in the country’s famed high-altitude training region.

According to a report on British Daily, The Telegraph, Bett’s Toyota Prado SUV hit bumps along in Nandi road, North West Kenya and rolled, his coach, Vincent Mumo, revealed.

Mumo said the accident happened around 6am.

Bett won gold in the 400 hurdles at the 2015 world championships in Beijing. He also won bronze medals at the African championships in 2014 in the 400 hurdles and 4x400m relay.

Brett was a two-time African bronze medallist and his twin brother Haron Koech is also a hurdler.

Athletics Kenya has sent its condolences to Bett’s family. Bett’s twin brother, Aron, is also an athlete and was part of the Kenyan 4×400 team that won gold at last week’s African Athletics Championships in Asaba, Nigeria. Nicholas Bett didn’t run on that team.
