Kerber Splits From Coach Fissette

Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber has split from coach Wim Fissette just five days before the end-of-season WTA Finals. Kerber’s management team released a statement confirming she has ended her working relationship with the Belgian coach, who she had been mentored by since November last year.

“Despite the success of the co-operation since the start of the season, this step is needed because of differences of opinion as the future direction,” the statement read in explaining their split.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a fine year in 2018, rediscovering her best form. After reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January, Kerber went on to win Wimbledon by beating US star Serena Williams in the final.

The German is currently third in the world rankings and will look to end the season on a high when she takes part in the WTA Finals, which begin in Singapore on Sunday.
