Kerber – Strong Start Paid Off

Angelique Kerber believes a strong start to 2018 set her up for a fine year, which included a first Wimbledon title for the German.

The 30-year-old from Bremen returned to form after a disappointing end to 2017, winning the Sydney International in January before reaching the last four at the Australian Open and then the quarter-finals at the French Open.

After a bad 2017, I decided to sit down with my team, analyse what had happened and look for new strategies. And I knew that was the key to my poor performance, I was aware that I needed to have fun again with what I really love, which is tennis.

“After winning Sydney and coming back to the Australian Open, that gives me a lot of confidence for the next months and rest of the year.”

Her greatest career success followed at Wimbledon in July, where she beat Serena Williams in the final. “Wimbledon was always my biggest dream when I was kid,” she added. “That was the biggest moment in my career, a special moment. Overall it was a really good year for me.”
