Keshi Blasts Nigerian Fans

Keshi Blasts Nigerian Fans

–Over alleged abuse on his family

Nigeria coach, Stephen Keshi, has blasted the Nigerian fans, describing their attitude as shameful and capable of making the players quit the national team.

Keshi has been speaking bitterly, despite the 1-0 win over Bosnia which increased Nigeria’s chances of progressing to the round of 16 at the World Cup.

Fans in Brazil and in Nigeria were not impressed by the Super Eagles lackluster display in the 0-0 draw against Iran in the opening fixture, and subsequently registered their displeasure; an act which hasn’t gone down well with Keshi.

Apparently unaware of the fierce criticism and fans backlash that have trailed England and Spain’s performances in Brazil, Keshi said: “England and Spain are out of the World Cup, and nobody in those countries has raised hell about their teams’ performances, but yet we get criticized for drawing against Iran.

“The fans have gone to the extent of insulting the players and their families. So how will they (players) get inspired or motivated?”

Keshi further went on to say that such reactions from the fans can discourage the players from representing Nigeria.

“They keep insulting the players, and yet you want them to keep playing for Nigeria? If I were a player now, I’d stop playing for the national team.

“It is a shame what our fans are doing. They thought Iran was easy but they saw how difficult it was for Argentinato beat them. Now they are apologizing because we defeated Bosnia but I ask ‘what are they apologizing for?”

“To be honest, I’m hugely disappointed. They should just give us a break. You have to support your team to the end, not insult them.”

A quitter is never a winner. If everyone of us in life quits after every criticism or just because we are abused then this life will be full of failures. The players should just take it in their stride, use it as a motivating factor and reply with an excellent performance on the pitch.
