Keshi Defends Eagles Poor Display Against South Africa

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has defended the drab 0-0 draw played on Wednesday night between his team and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Cape Town Stadium in Match Day 2 of the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The African champions are in danger of not qualifying for the tournament in Morocco in 2015 where they are expected to defend their title won in 2013, but Keshi insists he was satisfied by the performance of his players.

in a game dominated by the South Africans who are now second on the log, three points ahead of Nigeria who they have never defeated in ten competitive games in international football.

Keshi who admitted to have seen just “a short clip” of the Sudan versus South Africa while his South African counterpart, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba revealed that “we worked on all the Nigerian players” gave reason why his below-par Eagles are not flying high while he spoke to reporters after the game.

” We have not been together and it is taking time to gel,” Keshi offered. “I’m not satisfied, but I liked what I saw today (of my team).

Nigeria now have just 12 points to play for from a possible 18 and will play Sudan both home and away in October.

Congo who were not initially in the race for the 2015 AFCON defeated Sudan 2-0 at home also on Wednesday and will play South Africa in two-legged fixtures in October.

Two wins in those games would virtually confirm Congo as qualifying for the Nations Cup next year, leaving South Africa and Nigeria to fight for the second ticket from the group.

NFF should better call back Samson Siasia to coach the Super Eagles because I don’t see any good football playing under Keshi right from the beginning, Siasia is far better than Keshi…. Enough word for a wise one….

    • paul enyi 7 years ago

my brother, if siasia is so good, why has he not got a coaching job in one of the africa countries since. it is still better to stick with keshi. at least he has a record in africa than siasia, so save us the usual rantings.

After Mashaba finished watching the clip of Nigerian players, what happened? i beg make i hear word jare, na our players mess up, they wanted to score an offside goal self.

  • moses 7 years ago

i prefer the nff should bring on sunday oliseh and jayjay okocha to take over from keshi and co

  • TruthisBitter 7 years ago

Keshi has no ideas anymore…..You need a month to gel your players when you can only have them for a few days training…..make this man no make me curse am oooo

  • Benue 7 years ago

Pleas I hope you are not trying to blame the Nigerian players for drawing with South Africa. U are totally wrong if u think the players are to blame. Those players put in 100% effort and were commited when compared to the congo game.

The Eagles coaches are responsible for Nigeria having only 1 point. I have nothing against Keshi but when i hear him analyze Nigeria game against Congo and SA and the reasons for the poor results, I am beginning to doubt very seriously that Keshi is the right person to take Nigeria foward.

Sack Keshi now and allow an ex-player whom is reasonable to handle the team before Mr ke-shit finally distroys the team…We still have great existing players like Obafemi martins, Ikechukwu Uche (Nigeria’s highest goal scorer for last season in europe), strong-growing midfielder iheanacho, taye taiwo (still solid at left back) plus replacements for Efe ambrose whom must have eaten too much akpu just like emenike….ehn! Emenike won golden boot with just 4 goals and hes feeling like Ronaldo or Messi? Arrant NONSENSE!!! Has he checked his profile well to see that he has not scored even half of what he scored to win a local golden boot since after the AFCON 2013? Guy u better go and sharp your cuttlasses and shovel to continue mounting your ridges for yam plants since you’ve only been up with AKPU!!! You want to feel like a golden player then your impact of goals should be counted in each game you play and stop deceiving yourself with those old-school trick-dribbling style that could not pass that southy 17yrs old defender……You fucked up!

  • Smooth1 7 years ago

Now over to Mikel and igiebor, remember that your time is running out, past glory will not save you from being axed from the team, two of you were the ones distributing the pills of laziness on the field of play……..while watching the both of you, i see beasts of no nation, not even a nigerian act, drive and creativity…..you played like you were hired to represent this country without being fully paid as bargained……no shots at goal from any of you??? DISGRACEFUL!!! OGHENEME-BIKOR! SHUUU!!! iheanacho can replace the two of you that i saw strolling and resting in most time of the game last night…..you sucked! oh yes you dont expect praises from such performance when you could recall the last score from our game with same side. no matter how they improve, we are the giants and can bend them at anytime of play……

  • Smooth2 7 years ago

Thumbs up to our GOALIE EJIDE! he played with all his heart!!! keshit must apologize to those players we ought to have in our team that could have turned around the system of our game…….. yeye coach pride! Please we need Siasia back cos he must have learnt his mistake and we trust in his product of selection…Super eagles go survive!

  • John Luka 7 years ago

Keshi please its your pride that is bringing you down. Didn’t you know that you need to have watch the match between Sudan and South Africa that was played on Friday on Super Sport before our match on Saturday? I always have my doubts about your technical abilities. I listened to the SA Coach after the match and I got to know we are still back ward in terms of technical matters.
Keshi has ended his reign lets see if he will still be asking for N20m a month salary again.

  • Lagun Osa 7 years ago

God had given Keshi a better team last AFCON. but he destroy the team himself with ego and selfishness. most coaches struggle to have better team he got in AFCON but he use his own hands to destroy. l’ll continue saying it, he better call all the same players he use in last AFCON and stop his ego. He should remember is not about himself but about the team…So keshi beg those guys you know they made u proud and stop your yeye big boss cause nff will soon sack u with ur stop ego.

  • ijies young 7 years ago

Is it one,or two countries to qualify from each group?
The lost we recorded against Congo was unbelievable.I’m not so convinced about the tactical ability of Keshi. He is not playing the style Nigeria is known for.The winning eagles don’t run too much as we have noticed in the present eagles.Nigeria team is used to slow playing when compared to the current Keshi eagles that embarked themselves in running round the pitch with no purpose. They can’t hold ball for 20 seconds without losing it to their opponent. No accurate passing, needless of talking perfect dribbling. It is time we inject some new players as the overrated Emenike,Mikel and some in the team can no longer be relied upon.

  • vince 7 years ago

Give Keshi contract and let him have his game reader Okpara and Eagles will perform. We need a striker, Emenike is not 100% for Eagles anymore.

  • Its time to give this team to Oliseh Or Siasia period. Thank you Keshi you have done your best and I personally appreciate you, but its time for Oliseh. This is my opinion as someone who love this country.

  • I don’t understand this guy called Keshi. At this point, you are still complaining that you need time for the team to gel? You have been in the saddle for more than 2 years with the same set of players and yet to gel? Don’t forget all of the teams have the same condition to put the team together and prepare for the games. @Keshi, your problem is you are technically bereft and you can not give what you don’t have and I don’t blame you. The blames go to those who hired you in the first place because we know right from your days in Togo and Mali that you know next to nothing in football technichs.
Some guys complain about the players being lazy. Yes the players are lazy, but it takes a lazy coach to gather lazy players. It comes from the top.
A coach who invites players based on loyalty and not by what the players bring to the team. A coach who players must call first before the players are invited to camp, not minding what quality the players are made of as long as they can negotiate their match bonuses and allowances. A coach who plays politics and instigates players to cause troubles for his employers. A coach whose main interest is what he can get materially from the nation and not what he can give. A coach who fights his players at every slightest opportunity can not focus. Keshi is not the coach that we need, but it will be too late before we realize that.

  • Idowu 7 years ago

Luck really work for Keshi @ nations cup. Instead of him to work on his weakness & consolidate on the achievement, he was busy fighting his players. Now, it’s clear that he is tactically deficient , his selection is bad, too much ego & above all he believe he knows it all.

  • lucky Ukhun 7 years ago

Maybe it will take keshi a lifetime to make his team coherent.Good coaches in Europe bring in new players into their teams at the middle of the season and such new players start to gel with the new team even from the next match.it takes a competent coach to do that.

  • Lagun Osa 7 years ago

Olu, abeg fire dem make dem know…Keshi the big boss, yeye coach with no second thought but to fight the players and blame dem nd covering his track. imagine him saying he will still blend player like Obasi to play in his team. shey obasi no bi our grass root players abi oba goal and ike no bi de same. useless coach. l will continue saying it..emenike now fancy himself as Goal king just because he own AFCON. we all know the achievement comes from team work with moses, ideye mba and co. Keshi reconsign with your old players or else, your secret done dey lick out and see how people dey yeye you.

  • Toppal 7 years ago

@paul enyi, I hope you have not come to Complete Sports with another username because your comment is reminiscent of the comments of a staunch supporter of Keshi’s crooked ways of doing things on KickOff Nigeria.

  • Some of the idiots asking for Siasia on this board typify how retarded Nigerians are. Siasia is no better than Ke$hi. Ke$hi though is completely bereft of ideas and even the most basic form of football acumen…. all you have to do is just listen to him when he opens his drab illiterate mouth. His arrogance and pomposity makes it even worse. We have a month to the next game. The NFF (not the agbero minister) shoud appoint an interim coach that will the command the respect of the players and invite our best legs for the remaining games. Ke$hi has won just one competitive game in the last 11 games and all we hear are the same excuses. He is stubborn, arrogant, clueless and unforgiving. The nations cup win was a fluke and the present state of the team is a testament to that.

Old age they worry us. Go see their true age ask their primary school friends, you will discover that they truly put in 110%, kehsi is awear of this TRUTH,

  • doluv 7 years ago

keshi na yeye coach wit tooo much pride n it refused to learn

  • To me Keshi have done his best by being the first indigenous coach to play for Eagles and coach it to victory in AFCON. After that Keshi destroyed his ambition with Ego, envy and high wage demand.
His technical deficiency was brought to question when the Super Eagles struggle to impress at Brazil 2014. There was no technical know how exhibited by the Bench throughout duration of tournament that really make our Team inferior quality wise even when parade. Quality players. Thank God he qualify us the round of sixteen after three previous attempt but failed to qualified to third round because of his inferior game plans and techniques.
The team that have played together at the world that just ended in july are struggling in AFCON qualification shows that the Coach has over stayed his welcome. He bided Nigeria goodbye simply because he took to the world cup and felt he is a Top manager beyond Nigeria’s expectation. He was looking forward to be contracted by foreign countries after the world cup but alas that did not happen instead reversed his proclamation is still demanding a better contact, if he is the NFF chairman can he hired a coach that have so performed?
There is still time to rescue the Eagles from falling beyond a point of no return let the NFF put their house in other by bringing another top class coach save Nigeria football from Keshi mishap. Of course, Morocco 2015 is by the corner, we still hire a foreign technical adviser to help him solve his technical deficiency and this is not subject to his approval like he did before the world cup but even the blind can point where our problem lies.
I rest my case NFF please do something.

  • Keshi is fumbling too much. It is quite unbelievable that a team just back from the World cup in july are still struggling to find their feet. There is no excuse on the path of the players and the coach. Keshi cannot hold us to ransome. There are so many of our ex- players with coaching cerificates, why not give them a trial. What pain me most is that Nigeria are blessed with many talented players, but the coach prefered to limit himself to certain group of players. Where is Lukman Haruna and Ike Uche?, and so many others. We need a replacement fast for Mike obi. The guy is on his way out of the team. Look for dependable home players who are seeking international recognition and blend them for his possible replacement.
