Lazio Star Apologises To Teammates, Fans
By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has leapt to the defence of Ogenyi Onazi who was sent off in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Chad on Saturday in Kaduna.
The player himself has however admitted wrongdoing and apologised for letting his team down.
Keshi submitted that he would have retaliated if he suffered the same thing that happened to the Lazio midfielder.
The former My People FC star was given the marching orders for reacting to an elbow after Massama Asselmo had fouled Odion Ighalo in the box.
“Onazi was upset because the player elbowed him and he vented his anger on him,” Keshi told completesportsnigeria.com.
” In the heat of the moment he had a rush of blood and reacted.”
The coach however assured that there will be adequate replacement for the Lazio star in subsquent games.
“In his absence we will cope well,” Keshi added to completesportsnigeria.com.
A remorseful Onazi wrote on Twitter a few hours after the match: “I let my team mates and our loyal fans down with my action on the pitch today. I apologise for my actions. Thank you for your usual support.”
