Keshi: Eagles Won’t Toy With Chad

By Johnny Edward:

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has promised that his team with not treat Chad with kid gloves when both teams clash in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Ahamdu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Saturday.

Keshi who watched his side wallop Kaduna United 4-0 in a warm up game on Tuesday disclosed that his team will offer 100% to win the game and avoid the shock loss to Congo in Calabar last year in their opening round of the 2015 AFCON.

“Chad may be tiny in size but football in Africa today is dynamic and as such we have to respect all the teams and prepare very well which is quite important,” he told the CAF website.

“We have to be ready and be serious minded about this match because it is going to be our first in the qualifiers and we have to give more than 100 percent so that we can be victorious.

“We are not going to handle them (Chad) with kid gloves because they have a lot of professional players now. I played against them (Chad) before in 2008 but they are a different team now and their current coach (Emmanuel Trégoat) is from France, so we are probably going to play a team complete with a lot of foreign-based professionals from France and Morocco.”

Keshi also revealed that the choice of Kaduna as the venue for the game against Chad was down to the undying support the team will get from the fans.

“We love to move round and you know we’ve played in Abuja, Calabar and some other places including Kaduna. We like Kaduna because the fans are going to give you about 120 percent support. The players need maximum support and hopefully we would have the fans behind us against Chad in Kaduna.”
