Nigeria boss Stephen Keshi has revealed he is counting on Shola Ameobi being an inspiration to the young players in his squad, adding that the Newcastle star’s experience in the Premier League is a valuable asset when approaching this World Cup.
Shola’s contribution on and off the pitch is also registered, Keshi remarks. “Shola is the consummate professional and he is a leader on and off the pitch, his experience is invaluable to the team.
“I’ve got a young team and we need somebody like him to guide and inspire as he’s played at the highest level for so long,” Keshi said.
There appears to be an increasing possibility of Ameobi starting when Nigeria kick off their Brazil campaign against Iran on Monday 16 June.
