Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi is adamant that despite Nigeria’s not-too impressive performances in their friendly games ahead of the mundial, his side will be ready to perform in their World Cup opener against Iran.
The African champions are expected to dispatch the Iranians with minimum fuss when both sides clash on Monday, but there are concerns over Nigeria’s readiness for the World. Cup.
The team drew against Italy, Scotland and Greece and then lost to USA before jetting off to Brazil.
“We’re in Brazil for serious business. Friendlies are meant to serve as rehearsals; the team is different from competitive matches,” Keshi stated.
“This is not an excuse for our performance in the matches, but seriously speaking, the results do not mean anything to me, evaluate us in the World Cup.
On stopping Lionel Messi, Keshi said: “We have two games before thinking about Messi.
“We will try and do better than we did at South Africa 2010, but we will see what happens when the World Cup starts,” the Super Eagles coach concluded.
The Eagles are yet to qualify from the group stage of the World Cup since France ’98.
