Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has maintained that playing in the American Major League Soccer was not the reason Obafemi Martins was not considered for the World Cup.
Keshi said Bright Dike, who also stars for MLS side Toronto FC, could have made it to the World Cup but for injury.
“I live in the United States of America, so I know a little bit about the league,” said Keshi on the MLS.
“It’s a good league. I don’t think there’s any problem for a Nigerian player to play in Major League Soccer.”
Martins was at South Africa 2010, but a comeback to the Eagles under Keshi did not work out.
The Seattle Sounders striker, on his own part, has said he has put behind him the exclusion from Brazil 2014, saying the rest of the Sounders season is “my World Cup.”
“I hope to stay in Seattle Sounders for long term…the fans,” Martins tweeted.
He has scored six goals so far this season in 14 games after he netted eight goals in 21 games last season.
