Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi has said he is not God to promise victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday in continuation of the World Cup in Brazil.
African champions Nigeria were disappointing as they were pegged back by Iran in their opening Group F match on Monday and would need to boost their hopes of qualifying for the knockout rounds of Brazil 2014 with a win over debutants Bosnia on Saturday night in Cuiba.
But Keshi has maintained he will not promise victory in this game because he is just an ordinary coach and not God.
“I’m not God, I’m just a coach and I will do what I have to do and that’s it,” the Eagles coach answered when asked about his expectations for Saturday.
“Even the best coaches in the world cannot tell you they will win before the game.
“We will try to prepare ourselves, we will work together and see what happens.
“We saw (the surprise from) Costa Rica, we saw (another surprise) Holland and Spain. With football you never can tell, whatever comes my way, I will take it.”
Saturday’s clash will be the first meeting between both countries.
Bosnia will also be angling for a result on the day after they impressed, but still lost their opening group game 2-1 to Argentina.
Kick-off time is 11pm.

This clearly states the rantings of an arrogant coach who has lost believe in himself. He doesn’t know how to play mind games against his opponent . He is also displaying signs of a coach with low morale. This is the time to talk tough and put fears in the minds of your opponents . If you know that you are not up to the job, you had better quit before further disgrace is brought upon you and the team. I am really disappointed in Keshi, i expected more, but sorry, i got less. it is a shame, he is closing doors on local coaches by his inept performance and lack of optimism.
I quite disagree with Nzekwe because someone who says he is not God and cannot promise to win a match simply want to lie low until he gets what he wants. My only exception I have is with the coaching crew dropping a player like John Ogu (if he is not injured).Tested players such as Nosa Igiebor who have played bigger tournaments ought to have been included. However, a player like Ramon Azeez who promised to repay the coach with high performance at the world cup in Brazil was a huge dissappointment in the match against Iran.Consequently, I also wonder what Osaze did wrong in not “playing to instruction” against Iran when he came in as a substitute. When Iran parked the bus,it was a player such as Victor Moses that could have unlocked that defence or at worst committ the Iranians to a foul play inside their box had it been that he was given the chance. My suggestion and advice is that the players and coaches alike have to raise their game to a higher level with determination that something is at stake (qualifying for the round of 16)
This can`t be Keshi. I have never heard any coach saying things like this
Mr Asugha, I disagree with you. His Keshi God? No, he’s not.
The players let him don in the 1st game. Some pple might have concluded he made wrong substitution, but pls will the coach himself put the ball in the net? No, soccer players are meant to do that.
I’m not a Keshi apologist but he’s trying not raise people’s hopes for nothing bcos u never know what these players will do.
Let’s all rally round the team at this time. At least , we are all entitled to 3 good games at the mundial.
Long live SE/Nigeria
