Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Sami Khedira’s difficult 2014-15 season continued when he suffered concussion following a clash of heads during Tuesday’s 5-0 Copa del Rey win over Cornella and spent the night in hospital.
Khedira was making just his second start of the season — the other coming in the first leg of the Cornella tie — as his campaign has been disrupted by regular injury issues and also speculation over his future given his contract ends next June.
While the 27-year-old himself has not spoken about his plans, and coach Carlo Ancelotti has said he hopes a new deal can be agreed to keep him at Madrid, widespread reports have claimed he has already agreed to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on a free transfer.
The Blancos No. 6 came off the worst in an aerial challenge with a Cornella defender, and was attended by his club’s medical staff. He then attempted to return to the pitch, but after feeling dizzy was substituted.
